Chocolate Cosmos (review by nekochan)

Japanese:チョコレートコスモス
I recommend this manga to readers who are looking for an unusual love interest, or for those who want to try something different. For those of you who once liked a teacher, or currently in love with one, maybe you can relate with this story. But, don't expect too much romance. Cute manga You should try reading it!

Nekochan's review starts now...
*SPOILER ALERT!*

For the female lead, Sakurai Sayuki...
She's a hopeless romantic girl who, once in a while, day dream of her ideal love encounter. She's dense, at some point. She bases her conclusions on what she feels. So, when someone acts cold towards her, she thinks that she's hated by that person.

For the male lead, Hagiwara Katsuya...
He's the most admired teacher in their school. He's kind and cute.♥ He looks better without glasses as he looks old with it. It might not be that noticeable, but he admires cute/tiny stuffs. The way he treated Sayuki was like standing far from the edge of a train platform; so safe. You can't even guess if he likes her, or if he has ulterior motives when being kind with her. Well, that's because he's a teacher, so being kind to students is normal, right? He did not do anything to express his love until the manga's close to its end. Although he DID do something, but his motives were unclear. My personal thoughts about teacher-student relationship is not good. But, it's a good thing that Hagiwara's not as old as I thought of a teacher. :D

The storyline/story:
I noticed that the number of the female leads who aim to fall in love as they enter high school is abundant. XD

I like how the sequence of events were arranged. There were mangas that I got bored from just reading the 1st chapter, and I stop every time I got bored. But, for this manga, the 1st chapter's already interesting.

There are side stories included. I wonder why side stories are not included in the chapters. I mean, why does it have to be a side story in the first place? Can't they just insert it in the chapters? For this manga, I skipped 2 side stories. You know why? Because the chapter's ending before the 2 side stories was a cliff hanger. As I tried to read the 1st side story, I felt a little disappointed. I have to continue to where I ended. Because if I don't, the high tension that I was feeling at that time might drop. After that side story, there's another extra side story. Again, I skipped it. I read those 2 when I finished the manga. There are more than 3 side stories in this manga. But, knowing that, I still like this manga. :)

The title:
One of the characters said something about the Chocolate cosmos's significance(for those who don't know, it's a flower). Even though it has a negative thought, it was weird that they did not even talked about it. It was a big deal, but it was not given that much focus. I find it a waste that it was just used like that, most especially as a title. But, it sounds nice, right? 'Chocolate Cosmos' is a catchy title.

The drawing:
The guy characters where cool. Sayuki's CUTE. ♥
Haruta Nana-san's male character drawings confuse me(like in Love Berrish & Stardust Wink). I sometimes interchange characters, most especially when I just started reading her works. Since this is my 3rd time reading her work, I started looking for unique features of some characters(but I think, just looked some for Yuushi) as the story starts. But in this manga, it's easier to determine who's who.

What's in this manga common in other mangas I've read(18 mangas, so far):
Childhood friend. <-it's not really something big, right?

What made an impression on me:
The concept of the story. Student liking and confessing to a teacher.

What else?
I like it but I want to see more than what I saw. MORE MORE MORE!!! Chocolate Cosmos 2!!! :D

My thoughts about the ending:
To read, highlight from here to ☆. Don't highlight if you refuse to read.
I like it BUT, I don't think this story should just end just like it did. I think it's nicer to see them fight for their love, or something like that. I mean, society doesn't really approve teacher-student relationship, right? But I did not see it in this manga. We'll never know...How about a Chocolate Cosmos 2? :D
